This recording includes three very fine performers who are outstanding in this 'art'. Bruce Dickey gives us an excellent overview of the pieces that were prominent in this period. He is one of today's most expert practitioners of the Renaissance art of diminution and an accomplished cornettist. Monica Huggett, violin, appears here on her third CD with Galatea.

Michael Chance, countertenor, is very impressive in his contributions, and to my thinking is as skilled as many of the jazz singers such as Ella Fitzgerald or Mel Torme to name just a couple. He sings six selections with lute, my favorite being 'Ave Verum' after Palestrina; but he also includes one that I have long enjoyed 'Lasso vita mio'. This disc dazzled me from my very first listen and has never stopped doing so.
